Frequently Asked Questions
What's the ideal weight for an ultra-lightweight tent?
Ultralight tents usually weigh less than 1.5 kg, with the very best dropping below the kilo mark. That weight saving often comes at the cost of reduced interior space and finer materials that need handling with care.
Is an ultralight tent sturdy?
The good models stay reliable (waterproof flysheet, taped seams, aluminium poles), but their lightweight fabrics need more care than a classic tent. For extreme conditions, you're better off with a sturdier or four-season tent.
How to save weight on your tent?
Choose a lightweight flysheet, aluminium poles and a compact design; some tents pitch using your trekking poles instead of dedicated poles. Also split the carrying load between two when you can.
Which season is an ultralight tent suitable for?
Ideal for fair-weather trips in spring and autumn, in mild to moderate conditions. In winter, in strong winds or at exposed altitude, a sturdier 4-season tent is the safer choice.
