Frequently Asked Questions
What is a freestanding tent?
This is a tent that stands on its own thanks to its pole structure alone, no pegs needed. You can pitch it anywhere, move it once it's up and give it a shake to empty it out: ideal for hard, rocky or sandy ground.
Do you still need pegs?
The tent is freestanding, but we'd recommend adding a few pegs and guy lines to secure it in wind or rain, and to pitch the flysheet nice and taut. On soft ground, this stops it blowing away; on hard ground, the structure alone is enough to hold it in place.
Is a freestanding tent easy to pitch?
Yes, that's one of its biggest selling points: clip in a few poles and it's standing in minutes, even in rain or wind. Its simplicity makes it a firm favourite for everyday use.
Freestanding or non-freestanding?
A freestanding tent is simpler and more versatile on any terrain, but often a little heavier. A non-freestanding tent, lighter in weight, relies on pegs and solid anchoring. The choice comes down to the terrain and how much priority you place on weight.
