Frequently Asked Questions
Water filter or purifier: which should you choose?
A filter removes bacteria and protozoa, which is enough for most cases in Europe. A purifier also neutralises viruses, essential in regions or waters where viral risk is present. Choose according to the quality of the water you'll encounter.
How does a gravity filter work?
Untreated water is poured into a dirty bag and flows by gravity through the filter into a clean bag, with zero effort. It's ideal at camp for treating large volumes while you get on with other things.
Does a water filter remove viruses?
Most filters trap bacteria and protozoa but not viruses, which are too small for their membrane. For viruses, you'll need a purifier: ultrafine filtration, chemical treatment or a UV lamp.
How to look after your water filter?
Flush and rinse the filter after every trip to keep the flow rate up, dry it thoroughly and protect it from frost, which can damage it. Stick to the cartridge's lifespan as indicated in litres treated.
